Cancer Survivor College Scholarship
2012 Recipients
Washington State

The Cancer Survivor College Scholarship is supported by the Paddle Raise. In 2012, 57 college bound or currently enrolled students received aid. Each scholarship is $2,500 and each student has a lifetime opportunity of being awarded $10,000. Twenty four of the 57 recipients in 2012 were previous scholarship winners. In 2012, the Camp Goodtimes Wine Auction raised $27,800 for this program, a significant part of the $142,500 that was given out last year.

The four recipients from Washington state are as follows:

Robert Wyler: Robert was first diagnosed with Leukemia in 1997 at the age of five. AFter two bouts of this disease, he finished treatments in 2005. In 2010, he graduated from Inglemoor High in Kenmore, WA, and he is currently a junior at Central Washington University, earning a 3,7 GPA. He is currently a counselor at Camp Goodtimes West.

Caitlin Holloway: Caitlin is a Seattle resident who, at the age of 14, suffered from Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She battled through five months of treatment before beating the disease. Due to her experiences, she pursued a degree in nursing at Southern Illinois University. She is currently a junior with a 3.9 GPA who contributes to a number of community nonprofits, including the American Cancer Society. This is her second year receiving this honor.

Evan Skandalis: Evan grew up in Seattle, WA and sought treatment for Capillary Thyroid Carcinoma at Virginia Mason when he was 17 years old during his senior year of high school. Evan worked hard to get ahead of his studies and started Evergreen State College with sophomore standing this year and a 3.5 GPA. He is interested in small business leadership and outdoor education.

Morgan Harry:
Morgan suffered from Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 15. Her illness did not stop her from setting high goals and after earning a 3.9 GPA at Cedar Park Christian in Bothell, WA last year, she was accepted into Gonzaga University where she is pursuing a degree in medicine. She appreciates everything the nurses and doctors did for her during her treatment, and this is her way of giving back.
